Something Important To Me...
Throughout my time keeping reptiles I have had my time time working with wild caught imported animals. Something I believe in is that no one should acquire these animals to be pets and that they should only fall into the hands of people experienced and willing enough to establish the species in the hobby to stop the need for importing. While it sounds bad the private sector is responsible for establishing and saving more species than zoological facilities because often private collectors have more time and space to dedicate to a species. I have done my share of work by breeding Red Eyed Crocodile Skinks up to generation two in captivity before I had to get out of the project. Another species I have been excited to work with and helping establish is the Carpet Chameleon where I have 3 imported pairs going so that I can send the babies to other breeder to help keep genetic diversity in the species. And finally another species I am proud to have reproduced was the Riverine Leaf Tailed Gecko from Australia and this was big because there are not a lot of people in the United States working with the species.
